Champions Tour Player Steve Thomas achieved the longest drive to place 8th this past weekend at the Walmart First Tee Open Champions Tour event in Pebble Beach, California. Thomas’ driver is the new Alpha V5 LX which helped him score 7 under par to finish 8th.
In two previous back-to-back events, Champions Tour player Steve Thomas also used the V5 LX to win the Florida Senior Golf Tour in Lakeland, Florida as well as finish second at the American Senior Golf Tour in Maricupa, Arizona.
Known for being the “Longest Driver on the Champions Tour”, Thomas drove more than 400 yards at each event to capture his top finishes. “The driver did it for me” says Thomas when asked how the V5 LX performed on the tee. “I’ve tried every driver out there, and I have never felt so much power and speed than I have with the V5 LX”.
The V5 LX is Alpha’s newest driver. The body is 22% more rigid than a traditional driver, due to an innovative Variable Crown Thickness technology which strengthens the body and minimizes deformation at impact. “The key to maximizing smash factor (and thus ball speed) is minimizing deformation of the club head”, says Dr. Jim Yeh, founder and chief designer of Alpha Golf. “Other drivers only focus on increasing the contact time with the ball. We are the first to address both the impact of the ball on the face and the energy transfer through the body of the club head.”
The V5 LX retails for $388 at www.alphagolfclubs.com.
