LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (September 2, 2008) – The award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show, hosted by Tony Leodora, is about to begin the most spectacular month of programming in its three-year history.
GolfTalk Live, which airs 52 weeks a year from 7 to 8 a.m. each Saturday on WNTP 990-AM and on www.wntp.com, is an interview-driven golf show that has grabbed national attention. At the PGA Merchandise Show in January, GolfTalk Live was voted America’s Best Golf Radio Show by the prestigious International Network of Golf.
Now, in the midst of its third year, it has put together an incredible month of travel, interviews and special features. “We have always tried to bring the show to the center of the golf action,” explained Leodora, who also serves the golf world as editor of GolfStyles Philadelphia magazine and a rater for Golfweek’s America’s Best course rankings. “We just finished a show from the World Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach, talking to locals who played in the championship as well as the eventual winner.
“Now, we are following that trip with a very exciting month on the road. We believe that travel is at the center of the game’s appeal to the American golfer and we are trying to capture some of that excitement.”
The September schedule begins on September 6 with a trip to one of the greatest oceanside golf resorts in the country, Kiawah Island. Features will include reports from the Ocean Course, site of the 2012 PGA Championship, and the spectacular new Sanctuary hotel.
On September 13, GolfTalk Live makes its first visit to the state of Indiana and the newly renovated and expanded French Lick Resort. One of America’s grand old resort hotels, French Lick Resort has undergone a major transformation with the addition of a casino, renovation of the Donald Rosss-designed golf course and opening of the new Pete Dye-designed golf course.
“We saw a live remote broadcast of the GolfTalk Live radio show when we attended the International Network of Golf Spring Conference in Atlantic City in May,” said Richard Pauley, vice president of marketing for French Lick Resort. “We realized it would be the perfect way to introduce our resort to people in the golf-rich Philadelphia area. When we found out that we would be part of the September schedule, we were elated.”
On September 20, GolfTalk Live visits another grand old resort that has been given a new life thanks to renovation, Bedford Springs Resort in southcentral Pennsylvania. Coincidentally, the golf course at Bedford Springs also is a Donald Ross Classic that reopened in 2007 after a major renovation by architect Ron Forse.
Super September concludes with a repeat visit to the Atlantic City Boardwalk, the site of one of the most action-filled shows of the year. The September 27 show will come from right in front of world-famous Boardwalk Hall and promises to be another lively morning.
“I couldn’t believe we were doing a radio show right in the middle of all of the morning activity,” said Mike Reynolds, national sales manager for the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority and co-host of the show that aired in July. “We had people riding their bikes all around us. People were stopping to comment and ask questions while the show was going on. So many people recognized Tony and wanted to come up and say hello. It was a great atmosphere.”
The September shows cap a summer of travel throughout the region and prepares for the fall when an additional bit of travel will be sprinkled in with a steady diet of shows from the regular indoor home, Ray’s Diner and Malt Shop in East Norriton, Pennsylvania. The popular “Breakfast with the Golfers” series of shows will resume in October and run through March.
In addition to the regularly scheduled airing of GolfTalk Live, the show also can be heard any time during the week by going to the website, www.golftalklive.net.
