WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY-If you were a scratch golfer, would you want to be involved in teaching golf to youngsters in K-8 grades in this golf-rich county? Ask Kevin Sullivan because that is what he is facing as he takes over the Total Golf Adventures’ (TGA) franchise in Westchester County.
Kevin says he carries a one-handicap and expects his golf ability will make it easier for him to teach golf to youngsters.
‘I’ve worked around golf courses and I’ve been playing golf since I was a kid. I was on the high school team at Don Bosco, where I was voted MVP. I enjoy being around youngsters and I want to be able to give back to the community and the game something that I love doing,” Sullivan said.
Actually, Sullivan will have it a little easier than most new territory owners. The Westchester franchise was purchased by Kevin Rooney and Mark Thornewell who already operate successful territories in Bergen County, NJ and Rockland County, NY respectively. Their TGA franchises have been so successful that they decided to expand into Westchester County, and in turn hired Sullivan to be their key person building the business and growing the game.
“I have two great teachers,” added Sullivan. “They will be a big help in getting me launched. I am excited about this because I’ve always wanted to give back to the sport. In addition to the elementary schools in Westchester County, I am looking at special needs schools as I have a good background in social work.” Prior to taking over the territory, Kevin also worked in the advertising, sales promotion industry in New York City.
“This is a very unique situation for us,” says Joshua Jacobs, founder and CEO of the five-year-old fast-growing California-based company. “We know that Kevin Rooney and Mark Thornewell are pros in building their business. Having them add Westchester was a no-brainer for TGA. We are equally delighted with their choice of Kevin Sullivan who sounds as if he has a real passion for golf and a desire to give back to youngsters. That’s a perfect combination for us.”
Total Golf Adventures (www.totalgolfadvenures.com) was founded in 2003 with a mission to provide all K-8th grade students with access to the game of golf through the first national at-school, after school Golf Enrichment Program and other transition programs.
TGA is one of the fastest-growing sports franchises and junior golf companies in the nation, as it breaks down the traditional barriers of convenience and cost that prevent 90% of children from playing the game when golf is brought to the schools.
TGA’s 5 Level Golf Enrichment Program, developed by golf professionals and education experts, teaches the fundamentals, rules and etiquette of golf, while promoting golf’s life values through its character development initiative, “Play the Fair Way with TGA.” TGA transitions students from their schools to the golf course by offering camps, tournaments, clinics and private lessons.
TGA supplies its territory owners with the tools they need to succeed while building a strong base of corporate supporters that supply a variety of services and products to TGA territories. Just added to a growing list of corporate partners/sponsors is Staples®, which provides printed marketing solutions for all TGA territories. Already participating with TGA are Nicklaus Golf Equipment, the official provider of junior golf clubs, and Garb, Inc., the official provider of apparel for participants and staff.
Total Golf Adventures is endorsed and named as the official junior golf initiative by the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) and the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA); is a national supporting organization of the After School Alliance and Lights on AfterSchool, and is a corporate advocate and a partner of the President’s Challenge on Physical Fitness.
