Shoots Four Consecutive Rounds in the 60’s in Wire-to-Wire Win.
Fairhaven, MA (September 8, 2008) – When Camilo Villegas captured the BMW Championship, he became the 10th first-time champion on the 2008 PGA Tour. Nine of these up-and-coming players have one golf ball in common. Titleist. Villegas, a Pro V1 loyalist, fired four consecutive rounds in the 60’s en route to his winning wire-to-wire performance. His success follows Pro V1x player Vijay Singh’s consecutive Playoff victories at The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship. While Singh is a lock to win the FedExCup with just The TOUR Championship remaining, Villegas is in position to make it a Titleist 1-2 finish.

PGA TOUR: Camilo Villegas captured the third leg of the four-event Playoffs by closing with a 2-under 68 for a two-shot victory over Titleist brand ambassador Dudley Hart Villegas finished at 15-under 265 as both players shot all four rounds in the 60’s en route to the Titleist golf ball 1-2 finish.
In addition to playing the Pro V1 golf ball, the champion Pro V1 also relied upon Vokey Design Spin Milled approach (54), sand (58) and lob (60) wedges, and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Circa 62 #6 putter.
Dudley Hart had a Titleist bag complete with new golf club products. In addition to the Pro V1x golf ball, he relied upon a new 909D2 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, 909H utility metal, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, and a new Scotty Cameron Newport Fastback putter. The AP2 irons were introduced in the spring, while the rest of the equipment in his bag will be available in pro shops this fall.
Hart, who tied for 4th (77.7%) in Greens in Regulation at the BMW Championship, made one of the biggest moves in the FedEx Cup race, going from 67th to 14th and earning a berth in the TOUR Championship with his runner-up finish.
With one Playoff event remaining, Vijay Singh (Pro V1x), who won The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship, has clinched the FedEx Cup and the $10 million payoff following his T44 performance this week – as long as he successfully completes all four rounds at The TOUR Championship.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the BMW Championship with 48 players (70% of field), compared to nine for the nearest competitor. Villegas’ victory was the 23rd for Titleist golf ball players on the 2008 PGA TOUR, more than twice the nearest competitor with 11, and more than all other golf balls combined.
Titleist was also the top choice in the wedge (54) and putter (29) categories.
Statistically, Villegas finished 1st in Putts Per Greens in Regulation (1.608) and T1 in Putts Per Round (27.0) relying upon his Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #6 putter. The win is the 18th for Scotty Cameron putters on the 2008 PGA TOUR, more than twice the nearest competitor with 8.
PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: Jean-François Lucquin won the Omega European Masters following an all-Pro V1x playoff with 19-year old Titleist brand ambassador Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909F2 and 906F2 fairway metals, ZM Forged irons, Vokey Design pitching and Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select putter). Lucquin fired a bogey-free 67 to erase McIlroy’s four shot overnight lead and secured the title with a birdie on the second extra hole. Both players finished regulation at 13-under par 271. It marked the first career victory for Lucquin.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Omega European Masters with 112 players, compared to 18 for the nearest competitor. The victory was the 20th for Titleist golf ball loyalists on the 2008 PGA European Tour, four times the nearest competitor with 5.
WORLDWIDE WINS: With two more wins this week, Titleist golf ball loyalists have accumulated 126 victories across the worldwide professional tours, 100 more than the nearest competitor with 26.
