Course at British Columbia’s Renowned Revelstoke Mountain Resort A Collaboration with Nick Faldo
(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) — Schmidt-Curley Design — the full-service golf-course architecture, master-planning and construction-management firm — announces it has partnered with Nick Faldo, current captain of the European Ryder Cup team, on its first Canadian design project at British Columbia’s Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
Located on the edge of the majestic Selkirk Range, Revelstoke Mountain Resort is nestled in southeastern British Columbia approximately 390 miles northeast of Vancouver, and 250 miles west of Calgary, Alberta. The 18-hole course will be situated at the base of Mount Mackenzie along the shores of the Columbia River, on a gently rolling, heavily forested parcel of land punctuated by purple-flowered meadows and deep blue lakes. Breathtaking views of snowcapped peaks abound, adding to the extraordinary setting.
“The course’s location adjacent to the river is ideal,” says Brian Curley. “We’ll be working with relatively sandy soil and terrain that’s less rocky and undulating than the typical mountain course. We can’t wait to start earthmoving next Spring as Revelstoke presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase our skills in the Canadian market.”
The Revelstoke project is Schmidt-Curley’s eighth joint effort with the six-time major champion Faldo. Previous collaborations include Mission Hills Golf Club’s Faldo Course (Shenzhen, China), Marriott’s Desert Ridge (Phoenix, Arizona) and The Wilderness Club (Eureka, Montana).
“The development of the resort’s golf course will take it from an exceptional winter experience to the ultimate year-round recreational destination,” says Paul Skelton, President of Revelstoke Mountain Resort. “We have created a pure skiing and riding experience that has captured the world’s attention. With Schmidt-Curley’s experience designing world-class golf courses and Nick Faldo’s understanding of golf and his record for excellence, we will deliver that level of excitement to the golf arena.”
Schmidt-Curley’s entree into the Canadian golf market is yet another step in its aggressive international business model. Aided by offices in Scottsdale, Arizona and Haikou, Hainan Island, China, the firm is currently working in an eclectic variety of worldwide locales, including Mexico, China, the United States, Thailand and Egypt. Its design credits include the largest golf club in the world, China’s Mission Hills; four-time Skins Game host Terra Lago Golf Club in Indio, California; and Chonburi, Thailand’s Amata Spring Golf Club, host of the PGA European Tour’s Royal Trophy and Asian Golf Monthly’s “Best New Course in Asia” for 2006.
“Our firm has worked all types of terrains in all kinds of climates,” says Curley, who co-founded Schmidt-Curley Design with Lee Schmidt in 1997. “We pride ourselves on our ability to tackle any project that comes down the pike, emphasizing both creativity and professionalism.”
