Winners on Japan, European Seniors and EuroPro Tours Relied on Company’s Models to Beat Competitors, Conditions
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design shaft models were in the hands of winners of the Japan Tour’s Fujisankei Classic, the European Seniors Tour’s Casa Serena Open and the Ivobank EuroPro Tour’s Brooks Brothers Classic, according to the Darrell Survey.
In Japan, the Fujisankei Classic champion played Graphite Design shafts in his driver and 3-wood en route to victory. Each of the top six finishers in the event used Graphite Design models, which once again dominated on the Japan Tour. The company claimed the graphite wood shaft brand count with 136 shafts in play, 35 more than the nearest competitor, to win the count for the 170th time in the past 171 tournaments dating to 2002.
The Casa Serena Open winner relied on a Graphite Design shaft in his driver to earn his first European Seniors Tour title and third overall of 2008. The two-time major champion and longtime professional stalwart won by three shots while finding an impressive 88 percent of fairways for the week.
At the Brooks Brothers Classic, the winner notched his initial EuroPro Tour win playing Graphite Design’s Tour AD 95 shaft, which helped him overcome fierce winds at England’s Five Lakes Country Club.
“International professionals, who face a wide variety of course conditions and ever-changing weather, have long relied on Graphite Design shafts for consistent distance and accuracy in any situation,” said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. “We take great pride not only in our success on professional tours, but in helping amateur golfers of all swing types get the most from their games.”
Graphite Design – maker of some of the most widely played premium shafts on the PGA TOUR – recently introduced its Tour AD Throttle shaft designed with the company’s innovative Axial Composite Interlace (ACI) technology for strong golfers with aggressive, high-speed swings. Earlier this year, Graphite Design unveiled its Tour AD YSQ shaft delivering superior performance in four key areas: launch angle, spin rate, accuracy and distance.
In 2007, Graphite Design shaft models propelled professionals to a combined 45 victories on the PGA, Nationwide, Champions, Japan and LPGA tours. Among those relying on Graphite Design shafts were the world’s No. 3-ranked men’s player, the No. 4 women’s player, the winner of the Champions Tour’s Charles Schwab Cup points title, and seven of the top eight money earners on the Japan Tour. Graphite Design reinforced its dominance on the Japan Tour, where it has claimed 158 consecutive graphite wood shaft brand counts — an unprecedented streak which dates to 2002. On the PGA TOUR, Graphite Design shafts have helped professionals earn 54 victories and more than $290 million since 2004.
