Justin Timberlake Ushers In a New PGA Tour Era in Las Vegas

The week of October 11-17, 2008, will mark the first days of a new era in Las Vegas professional golf: the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open era. And while tournament organizers are confident that this year’s event will be filled with new excitement and a new format, and big names and big fun, they have made it known to the PGA Tour that they want a new date that comes within the FedEx Cup schedule. Both Douglas Maxwell, the Imperial Potentate of the Shriners, and Justin Timberlake have sent letters urging PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem to think about Las Vegas when and if a slot on the schedule opens. Las Vegas pros Chris Riley and Charley Hoffman attended a press conference at TPC Summerlin to help announce the changes and other info. http://www.golflasvegasnow.com/las-vegas-timberlake-era-pga-tour.php

Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort: Beauty, Good Conditions, and Challenge

Pete Dye twirled his design magic three times at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, Las Vegas golf’s only 54-hole golf facility that is home to the Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and The WOLF Las Vegas golf courses, all designed by the legendary Dye. The Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort is located about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, a few miles outside the northwest area of town, but because of the distance away, these courses are set in a pristine and quiet setting. There are no houses to be seen, and it’s just you, your friends and your golf ball as you play some of the prettiest holes in all of Las Vegas golf. Snow Mountain, the original, is highlighted by several holes that will be indelibly etched into your mind, including a solid three-hole finishing stretch. Another benefit to the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort during the late summer/early fall is that the courses are not overseeded and remain in good condition throughout the year.

Tidbits: Tiger in Town, Craig Barlow Out, More

There’s always a ton going on around and on Las Vegas golf courses. From celebrity Las Vegas golf events to Las Vegas golf deals to Las Vegas golf pros making a statement. Here’s a few recent tidbits and news from Las Vegas golf courses. First off, Las Vegas Review-Journal Celebrity Report NORM! is reporting that Tiger Woods was in town this week visiting with his trainer, Las Vegas’ Keith Kleven. Kleven has worked with Tiger, who is recuperating from season-ending knee surgery, for more than a decade. Earlier this year Kleven spent an entire week in San Diego helping Woods overcome his knee injury and win the U.S. Open. Woods met Kleven while being recruited to play at UNLV, and began working with him following a referral from fellow PGA Tour star Mark O’ Meara, also a Kleven client. In other season-ending injury news, Las Vegas resident and PGA Tour veteran Craig Barlow is having hip surgery and will miss the rest of the season. He will utilize a one-time, full medical exemption on the Nationwide Tour in 2009 in an effort to gain back full PGA Tour exempt status for 2010.
