A Last Minute Decision To Add The GEL Putter To His Bag Results in Stankowski’s First Major Tour Title
September 9, 2008 – American Tom Stankowski clinched the Canadian Tour Championship this past weekend, crediting his new GEL Putter for helping him win his first major tour title.
“Putting was my winning formula this week, especially down the stretch. Using the GEL Emerald, I birdied 17, and then sunk a 15-footer at 18 to seal the deal,” said a thrilled Stankowski, who just added the GEL Emerald Putter to his bag the last week before the tournament.
His clutch putting down the stretch highlighted his final round 69 to capture the Canadian Tour Championship by two strokes over his nearest competitors. Stankowski finished the tournament at 16 under par 272 and earned first Canadian Tour title in his career. The victory puts Stankowski seventh on the Canadian Order of Merit list earning him over $37,600 in prize money.
“I congratulate Tom and we are delighted that one of our GEL putters helped secure his victory,” said Alec Pettigrew, Managing Director of GEL Golf. “It is GEL’s third tour win and Tom’s victory in Canada should go a long way to showcase the benefits of GEL’s technology to the world.”
Pettigrew continued, “This is the third time a pro has made the last minute decision to use a GEL putter in a professional tournament and then went on to win. The first was with Bryan Saltus in the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open in 2007, and then Hsu Mong-Nam at the Shanghai Tournament this spring. We are looking forward to more tour pros experiencing the GEL difference.”
“I was very impressed with Tom’s composure down the stretch,” added Ray Bessette, Product Manager of GEL Canada. “He always looked confident and in control. Watching him roll that 15 footer in on 18 was as exciting a moment as I have had in some time. I couldn’t be happier to see Tom win with a GEL, as I am a big believer in the putter and this confirms my belief. I am looking forward to getting it in the hands of more golf pros in the near future.”
Test performed by Quintic proved that grooved putter faces produce instant forward roll on the golf ball, reducing the effect of skidding providing tremendous feel and response. Tests prove that the roll of a golf ball immediately after it’s been struck, is the most crucial element in directing the ball towards the intended target, and show why groove putters outperform all others on the market.
GEL’s product line incorporates decades of putter design with everything from traditional blade style putters to cutting-edge designs. The line features an aluminium putter face insert which is softer and more responsive than the stainless steel face inserts of other groove putters. Several models are available in ladies and left handed, and each GEL putter comes standard with a specially designed WINN grip. The MSRP for all GEL models in the United States is $165, $179 Canadian.
