MESA, Ariz. – Longbow Golf Club recently hosted their inaugural First Swing Seminar. Twenty two attendees consisted of local PGA/LPGA professionals, physical therapists and other individuals who work with mobility impaired individuals.
“The seminar is a natural next step to achieve our goal of making Longbow Golf Club as friendly as possible to golfers with limited mobility,” said Jay Larscheid, General Manager of Longbow Golf Club. “The instructors went away with the tools needed to make that best of each lesson. I think it was an eye-opening experience for all involved.”
Don Bigler, President of the Western Amputee Golf Association www.wagagolf.org, spoke for the first 90 minutes on the challenges amputees face in trying to play from golf equipment, course set up, etc. He also was very helpful on the instruction side with tips on ways to work around physical impairments. The last 90 minutes was used on the range where attendees were encouraged to hit shots from the SoloRiders as well as hitting shots using just one arm, or standing on one leg. A representative from Ping was there with some examples of clubs they have built for different individuals.
In April of 2008, Longbow Golf Club added two SoloRider golf cars to its fleet allowing golfers with limited mobility to more easily play the game of golf. With the SoloRider, golfers are able to drive on sensitive areas such as tees and greens without damaging the turf. The SoloRider’s seat swivels to 350 degrees allowing golfers to easily exit and enter the golf car. Plus, golfers are able to swivel the seat to the rear, and make a golf swing from the seated position. Those who wish to use the SoloRider can simply reserve it when making their golf reservation at Longbow Golf Club.
