St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital & The Val Skinner Foundation/LIFE
Far Hills, NJ, September 22, 2008 … The 19th Annual Cox Classic, presented by MPG and hosted by the Steven A. Cox Foundation, will take place on October 6, 2008 at Fiddler’s Elbow Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ. The event, which is supported with promotion ads on 95.5 WPLJ Radio, has raised over $6 million since its inception in 1989 to benefit children’s charities and other worthy causes, while attracting hundreds of corporate sponsors and participants from the tri-state area.
The 19th Annual Cox Classic will benefit the prestigious St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization unmatched in its commitment to finding cures and saving children. Additionally, the 2008 showcase will benefit The Val Skinner Foundation and LIFE, LPGA Pros in the Fight to Eradicate Breast Cancer, an initiative founded by LPGA veteran, now CBS and Golf Channel commentator, Val Skinner. LIFE beneficiaries include Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The tournament will be headlined by Skinner, along with LPGA Pros Angela Jerman, Rachel Hetherington and Tracy Hanson who will conduct a clinic and an on-course skills contest. The 2008 event features an 18-hole golf tournament followed by a cocktail reception, dinner, and awards ceremony. Highlighting the evening festivities is a post-golf reception that brings participants and dignitaries together to socialize, while celebrating the event’s great charitable endeavors. Participants will have the opportunity to win an assortment of gifts and prizes in a silent auction offering a breadth of sports memorabilia.
“The Steven A. Cox Foundation is extremely proud to host our 19th consecutive Cox Classic and prouder still of our association with two such outstanding charities as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and LIFE,” said Mike Marion, Tournament Chairman, the Cox Classic. “This event is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the life of Steven Cox, and preserving his legacy through philanthropic initiatives supporting critical women’s and children’s causes.”
Marion adds, “The Cox Classic combines a great golf tournament with the opportunity to meet area business leaders and the exceptional women of the LPGA Tour. Whether you want to reward employees or simply thank customers with a wonderful day of golf and philanthropy, a foursome at the Cox Classic is sure to please.”
