Michigan Author’s New Book Includes Over 100 Major Designers
NEW YORK, NY (October 3, 2008) – Michael Patrick Shiels, a Michigan-based author, collaborated with over 100 golf course architects to create “Secrets of the Great Golf Course Architects,” which will be released nationwide by Sky Horse Publishing in late October.
The book, featuring, personal, first-hand career tales and hand-drawn sketches and renderings, is an unprecedented cooperative literary effort between the esteemed members of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, including Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Rees Jones, Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest, Robert Trent Jones Jr., John Sanford, and Jim Engh – more than 110 in all.
“I solicited intriguing, inside stories that reveal the challenge, the danger, the triumph and the art of golf course architecture,” said Shiels. “The architects gave me their funny anecdotes, business lessons, mishaps, philosophies, travel tales, and inspirational stories as well as their handiwork: drawings, blueprints and concepts.”
“Michael Patrick Shiels’s unqiue compilation of vignettes presents rare insight into the living art created by golf course architects,” said Joe Steranka, CEO of the PGA of America. “This book will entertain, amuse and amaze you.”
Michael Patrick Shiels has authored Golf’s Short Game for Dummies and collaborated on books with Ben Wright, Arthur Hills, Larry King, and Donald Trump. His first book, an autobiography of Radio Hall of Fame host J. P. McCarthy, was a number-one regional bestseller. His golf and travel articles have appeared in publications worldwide, and he has twice been named the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Network Radio Personality of the Year.
