OB Sports-managed facility received second highest rating for daily-fee courses
INDIAN WELLS, California: Golf Digest’s 2008-2009 edition of “Best Places You Can Play” golf guide honored the John Fought-designed Players Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort with 4 ½ stars out of a total possible rating of five stars. According to Golf Digest, a four-star rating is considered “outstanding” and a five-star rating is considered “superb.” The ratings are based on reviews from Golf Digest readers who cast a ballot after playing daily-fee courses across the country.
“This recent honor validates what the City of Indian Wells has been striving for regarding the Players Course,” states Jeff Lessig, general manager of Indian Wells Golf Resort. “The creation of a great test of golf that is a definite ‘must play’ that is a distinctive contrast from the equally popular Celebrity Course. The one-two punch of the Players Course and the Celebrity Course clearly positions Indian Wells Golf Resort as a world-class golf destination.”
The Players Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort is no stranger to awards having been ranked #3 in the country in Golfweek magazine’s “Best top 30 Municipal Courses” and #13 in the state of California in Golf Magazine’s first ever state-by-state rankings. Indian Wells Golf Resort is California’s only 36-hole facility with both golf courses ranked in state-by-state rankings for both Golfweek magazine and Golf Magazine rankings.
Other OB Sports-managed courses receiving 4 ½ stars included: We-Ko-Pa Golf Club (Cholla Course) in Fort McDowell, Arizona; The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian, Mississippi; Eagle Mountain Golf Club in Fountain Hills, Arizona and Sandia Golf Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
About Indian Wells Golf Resort
The Indian Wells Golf Resort has been a popular golf travel destination for nearly 20 years, offering the original East and West Golf Courses and four hotel/resorts. Not willing to rest on past success, the City of Indian Wells, owner of the golf resort, reinvested in the golf experience at the resort by embarking on an ambitious facility-wide project ultimately yielding two new golf courses (Celebrity Course in November of 2006, and Players Course in November of 2007), the IW Club (clubhouse), nine-hole putting course, sprawling practice facility and a host of other amenities.
The Indian Wells Golf Resort is also home to competitive golf at the highest level. The LG SKINS GAME will be held at Indian Wells Golf Resort from 2007 through 2009. The first year featured a competition between Fred Couples, Stephen Ames, Brett Wetterich and Zach Johnson. Ames took top honors in 2007 earning $650,000 in “Skins.” The participants for the 2008 LG SKINS GAME will feature defending champion, Steven Ames, tour favorite, Phil Mickelson, U.S. Open runner-up, Rocco Mediate and Korean sensation, K.J.
