Norcross, GA (October 14, 2008) – Mizuno, the #1 forged iron in golf, introduces the MX-200 irons, the perfect combination of forgiveness and feel for maximum performance in a game improvement iron set. The MX-200 features revolutionary Y-Tune Technology for unparalleled forgiveness while providing something no other game improvement iron can provide, the soft, solid Grain Flow Forged feel that has made Mizuno the #1 forged iron in golf.
The one-piece forged MX-200 irons started with fundamental research that aimed to identify the most common miss-hitting profiles of mid and high handicap players. This research from Mizuno’s unmatched Global R&D Team led to the development of a clubhead design that more effectively places the sweetspot. The result is Y-Tune Technology, which utilizes a variety of design techniques to expand and extend the sweet area of the clubface out toward the toe, where most players miss-hit the ball. By modifying the shape of the sole and the depth of the cavity, Mizuno design engineers were able to develop a new Y-shaped cavity pad and a reengineered external power bar for unbelievable forgiveness, great trajectory, and amazing feel, even on miss-hits.
“Thanks to Y-Tune Technology, the MX-200 irons are more forgiving than other competitive game improvement sets,” said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Mizuno USA Golf Division. “And on top of this amazing forgiveness, players will also get the benefit of the unmatched soft, solid, consistent feel of Mizuno’s Grain Flow forging. You simply can’t beat this combination of high level game improvement forgiveness along with forged feel.”
A slightly larger clubhead and a wider, deeper, and longer CNC milled pocket design in the MX-200 deliver a low, deep COG for a high, easy launch, and a more aggressive triple cut sole design provides consistent playability from all types of lies. In addition, the MX-200s have a double nickel chrome plated finish for durability and modified U-grooves for the ideal spin rate in all playing conditions.
The MX-200 irons will be offered with True Temper® Dynalite Gold® XP shafts (R300,S300) standard in steel and Mizuno’s Exsar IS4 shafts (regular, stiff) standard in graphite. Also standard on the MX-200 will be the exclusive Mizuno/Golf Pride® M-21 58 Round grip. The suggested retail price for a set (4-GW) of MX-200 irons is $850 (steel) and $1,100 (graphite). The MX-200™ iron set will be available in right and left-handed models and custom shaft and grip options as well as length and lie options are available through Mizuno’s Custom Club department. Mizuno will begin shipping the MX-200 irons to accounts in September.
