The Next Generation Golf Amenity
CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – Harmony Links Golf, the leader in “next generation golf,” has announced “The Design Series.” Experts from throughout the golf industry are calling it the perfect response to golf’s rising costs, environmental requirements and inconsistent day-to-day quality.
This series combines the design and construction of replica and/or custom golf holes with synthetic turf from SofTrak for greens and tees along with real turf, low-flow irrigation and dazzling landscaping for a totally new golf experience. Golf course owners who adopt “The Design Series” to renovate existing or build new courses now have an alternative that:
Is up to 70 percent less expensive to maintain on an annual basis;
Is dramatically more environmentally friendly;
Provides a more consistent golf experience year-round for golfers.
With a typical lifespan of 10-12 years, SofTrak Greens turf represents a solid return on investment and with its DuraFlo backing, is 100 percent recyclable. Using minimal acreage, these holes can also be designed and constructed as golf amenities for residential developments, resorts, commercial or equestrian facilities and can be completed in a few weeks.
The “Design Series” from Harmony Links Golf (www.harmonylinksgolf.com) has garnered significant industry support from golf course architects, developers and players, alike. “This new concept fits in very well in today’s economic climate,” said Tom Fazio, recognized as one of the foremost golf course architects of the modern era. “It is conscious of pervasive drought conditions, tight water supplies and the need for low maintenance costs and should offer a wonderful recreational and visual option in any number of settings.”
Chris DiMarco, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour and a member of past Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams, added, “DiMarco Pointe is my personal golf complex and was designed by Harmony Links Golf and SofTrak to include fast greens with Augusta-style slopes. It features synthetic turf from SofTrak Greens combined with zoysia grass surrounding the greens and is a perfect place for my family and me to practice because SofTrak greens receive shots so well and roll so true. They are as fast as I wanted them to be. DiMarco Pointe is a great example of a custom personal golf complex in The Design Series.”
Stan Olsen, developer of Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla., and its world famous Quarry Course, worked closely with Harmony Links partner Terry LaGree, when LaGree managed Black Diamond Ranch for more than 10 years. ‘The Design Series’ represents a paradigm shift in the world of golf,” Olsen said. “Terry is an exceptionally talented golf course and landscape architect. Tom Fazio and Terry worked hand in hand with me to create one of the top residential golf communities in the country.”
“This kind of amenity is very interesting for developers who want to offer a unique golf setting that is visually spectacular, more cost-effective and environmentally friendly while offering their customers an exciting golf experience,” said Steve Tamposi, president and owner of Citrus Hills and Skyview at Terravista in Hernando, Fla. “Terry designed and built Skyview at Terra Vista golf course and we so appreciate his design and construction expertise.”
Steve White, Jr., president of XGrass/SofTrak Greens, added, “‘The Design Series’ is timely and will be differentiated through the performance of the SofTrak putting experience for golfers as well as the quality design from golf course architect Terry LaGree. The collaboration between Jeff Hartson and Terry on Harmony Pointe, The Marsh Course has led to a one-of-a-kind golf complex on the Gulf of Mexico at Jeff’s home. SofTrak greens putt like your favorite golf course and hold shots from 200 yards. Golfers are able to spin their approach shots just like they can on their home course. Putting greens from SofTrak don’t ‘snake’ like many synthetic turf greens … they roll true, the same each time.”
Requiring only minimal acreage and only some 20-30 man/hours of maintenance weekly, “The Design Series” is comprised of a variety of discreet themes that take advantage of natural topography, prioritize environmental considerations, desired replica holes and the golf course owner or developer’s budget considerations.
SofTrak synthetic turf greens eliminate problems inherent with routine maintenance practices required with natural grass greens, and thus offer bent grass quality putting surfaces 365 days a year. With SofTrak, golfers can play on a consistent putting surface that never requires aerification or overseeding.
Each year, golf course superintendents must aerify greens numerous times to offset compaction and maintain healthy putting surfaces. With each aerification, players must endure weeks of play on degraded greens while the aerified surfaces heal.
Additionally, with Bermuda greens most common in the South, putting can be degraded again during transition periods, in fall when greens are overseeded with winter grasses and again in spring when the primary Bermuda returns from dormancy.
In northern regions where greens are primarily bent grass, putting can be negatively affected by the sparseness or lack of grass on the greens shortly after winter snows melt. And insect infestations or disease can cause the loss of entire greens, regardless of the grass. SofTrak eliminates these problems entirely.
