It’s an event where the best players in the world get together at the end of the year to see who can take home additional bragging rights. The last two years, a Nickent hybrid golf club has been a major part of this “major” celebration.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf pitted the British Open and PGA Championship winner, also named 2008 player of the year last week, against this years’ Masters champion. Due to the #1 player in the world sitting out with an injury, two other top tier players were chosen to compete in the annual event in Bermuda.
One of those players, a longtime Nickent hybrid player, took home the trophy after birdieing the final hole to force a playoff and winning with an 8-foot eagle putt on the first extra hole. There was no way he was going up against the top players in the world without his Nickent. The current #11 player in the world took home the trophy wielding a Nickent hybrid, just as he did when he claimed his last two victories on the PGA TOUR in 2007 and at the spectacular U.S. victory at the 2008 Ryder Cup. The winner took home $600,000 with his win.
“It’s kind of a wonder that I’m even in the event to start with. So I kind of treated the week like I had nothing to lose. Rarely do I kind of go in just thinking about having fun. I’m usually all business and maybe it’s something to learn. I kind of kept plugging away and didn’t let too many things bother me.”
The 2007 U.S. Open Champion also defeated the Irishman who has claimed three major championships in the last two seasons in a playoff at this event last year using a Nickent hybrid club.
