California course top ranked in state according to Golf World readers’ choice rankings
CARLSBAD, Calif. (Oct. 23, 2008) – Less than a month after amateurgolf.com, the top website for competitive amateurs with the most extensive tournament database in the world, reached a partnership with Stevinson Ranch Golf Club to have the Central California course become the home course of amateurgolf.com the decision was reinforced when Stevinson Ranch was named the No. 11 course in the country according to a Golf World Magazine reader’s poll.
On a system that ranked aspects of the course on a 1-10 ranging from conditions to service to overall value Stevinson Ranch was awarded 85.48 of a possible 110 points, best in the state and one spot better than Chambers Bay in Washington, which will be the site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open.
“It’s especially gratifying since this recognition comes from people who’ve played the golf course and experienced what we provide,” Kelley said. “For us it’s very special.”
Golf World readers had this to say about the course: Located “in the middle of nowhere” this “endlessly interesting” course is “worth the drive.” The “greens are fast” but they “will give you putts you most likely never see again.” A “wonderful” layout and “good conditions” make it very popular with our readers, and “until Pebble cuts their fee in half, this is the place.”
Stevinson Ranch, which has been the site of the amateurgolf.com California Mid-Am + Master & Senior since the tourney’s inception in 2005, received top marks in the categories amateurgolf.com members would be most interested. Stevinson Ranch got top marks (9.00 or better) in Condition of Course, Quality of Course and Service, while taking a 9.55 in the Practice Facilities category, which was the best mark of any course in the top-50.
amateurgolf.com founder an CEO Pete Wlodkowski wasn’t surprised that Stevinson Ranch received such high grades.
“We saw the qualities of this course from the very beginning, there is a reason why we hold one of our biggest tournaments at Stevinson Ranch each year,” said Wlodkowski. “George Kelley and his staff have done a wonderful job with that course and it’s one of our players’ favorites.”
About amateurgolf.com
amateurgolf.com devotes our entire website to the 99.7% of golfers who aren’t pros. Our content is geared towards players who are serious about taking their game to a competitive level, whether that means winning the 4th flight of the Club Championship, or qualifying for the US Amateur.
Launched in 2001, the amateurgolf.com Tournament Series has grown to include three National events at Bandon Dunes, The Kiawah Island Resort and Pinehurst, plus close to 20 regional events throughout California. Running our own tournaments allows us to provide the avid tournament golfer with more of what they love- competitive golf – while helping those people who are newer to tournament play get more involved in it. (all events have a division for players with 15 handicap or less) Promoting tournaments also allows us to bring our primary website sponsors into direct contact with these golfers in order build awareness about their products and services. Bridgestone Golf, UST Golf Shaft, Titleist, Lamkin Grips, Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine, Ocean Hondas, Cutter & Buck, and Prize Possessions are just a few of the companies who have seen the benefits of sponsoring our website and Tournament Series.
