Garcia Uses New r7 Limited Driver for the First Time to Win at His Home Course in Castellon, Spain
CARLSBAD, Calif. (October 27, 2008) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Sergio Garcia returned to the course he grew up playing and won the Castello Masters by three strokes. It was his first event using the new TaylorMade r7 Limited driver and his first victory since switching to the new TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons.
Featuring a modern new head shape, the r7 Limited incorporates Movable Weight Technology (MWT) to promote 35 yards of side-to-side trajectory change – the most of any r7 driver. The shape, feel and sound of the r7 Limited have made it immediately popular among tour pros, while its highly effective application of MWT appeals widely to players who prefer the ability to adjust their equipment to promote increased distance and accuracy. Garcia also played the new Tour Preferred irons for the second time after debuting them at the Tour Championship, where he was the runner-up. Engineered to blend modern technology with classic design, the Tour Preferred irons’ tour-configured sole was shaped with the help of in-depth feedback from TaylorMade Tour Staff professionals. It features a softened leading and trailing edge that work together to minimize resistance and discourage digging, which helps the sole to power smoothly through the turf to promote purer ball-striking. Garcia hosted the inaugural event at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo where his father, Victor, is the host professional, and played like a champion using his knowledge of the course’s every angle and contour.
“It just feels very special and means so much,” Garcia said after his final round. “Just getting the tournament here was special for me and my family but to play the way I did and win it is awesome.”
The 28-year old Spaniard broke finished with a four-under-par 67 and posted a four-round total of 20 under par.
The win elevated Garcia to No. 3 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
