The Hatter Fall Classic will pit the host Stetson women’s team against seven visiting schools while the Stetson men welcome eight teams to the Stetson Invitational. Both tournaments will feature 36 holes of play on Monday, November 3, with 18 holes on Tuesday. The public is welcome to attend at no charge.
The women’s field includes Stetson’s varsity and “B” squads, Bethune-Cookman, Daytona State, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville, Mercer, South Carolina State and South Carolina Upstate. On the men’s side, Stetson will battle Bethune-Cookman, Charleston Southern, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville, Rollins College, South Carolina State and South Carolina Upstate. The women will play Victoria Hills from 6,065 yards while the men tackle the course from 6,989 yards.
Both Stetson squads have posted solid results this fall. The Lady Hatters began the season with a team victory at the Queens Invitational while the men claimed the Bethune-Cookman Classic in their most recent outing. Victoria Hills is the home course for the Stetson golf program and has held the school’s annual tournaments since 2003-04. The course and Stetson were recently selected to host the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Golf Championship, April 12-15, 2009.
“We’re proud to once again host these events, which serve as a showcase for outstanding college players from Stetson and their competitors,” says Matt Payne, Victoria Hills Head Professional. “Victoria Hills presents a great test of strategy, skill and nerve to accomplished golfers and we look forward to two days of excellent competition.”
