Tournament Features Twelve Collegiate Golf Teams with Several of the Nation’s Top Amateurs
SAN MARTIN, Calif. (October 28, 2008) – CordeValle, A Rosewood Resort proudly announces that it will hold its Fourth Annual CordeValle Collegiate Golf Tournament on November 3 – 5, 2008. With UCLA serving as the host team, some of the nation’s top collegiate golf programs will compete in this year’s tournament, including a number of standout collegiate golfers. Spectators are welcome to attend.
The 12 competing schools in this year’s Collegiate include: Arkansas, Arizona, Augusta State, Coastal Carolina, UNC Charlotte, Lamar, Northwestern, Santa Clara, Stanford, UCLA, USC and Washington. Standout players scheduled to compete include UCLA’s Philip Francis, the pre-season coaches’ poll number-one ranked player, Jamie Lovemark, the 2007 NCAA individual champion from USC, and first-team All-American Sihwan Kim from Stanford.
A total of 12 six-man teams (80 players total, with some teams fielding additional golfers on an individual basis) will participate in the CordeValle Collegiate. This is the only NCAA collegiate golf event these teams play that uses a foursome format, pairing two players from one team with two players from another team. Representatives from the Northern California Golf Association will officiate.
“We are thrilled to hold this prestigious tournament for the fourth consecutive year,” said CordeValle’s Director of Golf Operations Travis Skeesick. “Assembling this talented group of college athletes to compete on the same course that challenges our members and resort guests is an honor and something we look forward to every year.”
Designed by internationally acclaimed course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the 18-hole CordeValle course is characterized by strategically planted foliage and other elements that challenge the golfer’s ability. Jones has called the course at CordeValle one of the finest creations of his career. It measures 7,169 yards and will play as a par-72 course for the Collegiate.
Set on 270 acres of gently rolling terrain in a pastoral valley located approximately 25 miles southeast of San Jose in San Martin, California, CordeValle utilizes the natural elevation changes (150 feet over the 18-hole course) of its peaks and canyons, enhanced by broad meadows, streams, striking sycamore trees and mature California oaks. It demands numerous strategies and club selections throughout each round, due in part to its strategically-placed bunkers, challenging bays and other topographical twists.
