Alexandria, VA – October 31, 2008 – CMAA Member Kevin Kennebeck, CCM, general manager and chief operating officer of the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH, teed-up with Jack Nicklaus as they “whacked-a-wolverine” in support of Michigan State football just before its October 25 game. They used wolverine-themed golf tees as their way of showing how they felt about the rival team from the University of Michigan. Earlier, MSU School of Hospitality Business Director Ron Cichy sent wolverine golf tees to nearly a dozen members of the Alumni Association Board, which includes Kennebeck, asking them to symbolically “whack-a-wolverine” before kickoff.
Kennebeck went the extra mile by asking Muirfield Village founder and course designer Jack Nicklaus to join him. According to Kennebeck, when the golf legend and alumnus of The Ohio State University was asked to participate, “Jack was extremely pleased to oblige,” and he cleanly hit the ball without disturbing the tee. When Kennebeck took his shot, however, the tee shattered, foretelling the result of the football game, a 35 – 21 Michigan State Spartan victory in Ann Arbor.
“I think Jack had as much fun as I did,” Kennebeck says.
