Culinary Team USA Sponsored By CMAA And The Club Foundation Shines In International Competition

November 10, 2008

Alexandria, VA – November 7, 2008 – The USA’s culinary team sponsored by the Club Managers Association of America and The Club Foundation earned eight gold and two silver medals at the Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung International Culinary Art Competition, held in Erfurt, Germany, October 19 – 22. The medals were won by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Culinary Team USA, the official representative team of the United States in major culinary competitions. It comprises one national team, two regional teams, and a youth team.

“CMAA is proud to support and congratulate ACF Culinary Team USA,” says CMAA Chief Executive Officer Jim Singerling, CCM, CEC. “As a chef and now an industry executive, I have enormous appreciation for the artistic talent, culinary knowledge and hard work represented by these impressive team members and their Captain.”

“It has been The Club Foundation’s honor to serve as a Platinum-level sponsor of this team for more than five years,” notes Club Foundation Chief Operating Officer Seth Gregg. “Through their outstanding efforts in what’s known as the ‘culinary Olympics,’ these culinarians showed the world the very best of what America has to offer.”

ACF Culinary National Team USA earned two gold and one silver medal in cold food with its modern cold display, which showed the techniques and styles used in cooking today. The team also earned a gold medal in hot food, using sous vide methods and other modern American cuisine techniques. Thirty-two national teams competed in this quadrennial competition. ACF Culinary Regional Team USA earned a gold medal in their two competitions, and ACF Culinary Youth Team USA earned a gold and a silver medal. The U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team earned two gold medals and placed second overall in the world. While this team did not officially fall under the banner of ACF Culinary Team USA, ACF chefs played major roles on the team.

CMAA and The Club Foundation are joined as team sponsors by the Westchester Country Club and several companies, including Kraft Foodservice, Tyson Food Service, Unilever, KitchenAid and others.
