Georgia Replaces Oklahoma State as Top Team in D-I Poll

NEW YORK, NY-The fourth and final Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com. The polls will also appear in the Nov. 28 issue of Golf World.

Georgia is the new number one team in the poll, earning 23 of the 24 first-place votes. The Bulldogs closed the fall with wins at the Brickyard Collegiate and the Isleworth/UCF Invitational. They had three top-five finishes in four tournaments this fall, and compiled a 54-8 overall head-to-head record against Division I opponents.

Oklahoma State dropped to number two, but still had a successful fall, with a victory at the Ping Preview and third-place finish at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.

Alabama jumped to third, having a win and three top-five finishes in four fall starts. Southern California was fourth, and earned the lone remaining first-place vote after closing out its fall schedule with a 26-stroke victory at the CordeValle Collegiate. Stanford came in at number five in the poll.

Indiana had the biggest jump, moving from No. 20 in the last poll to eighth in this week’s poll. The Hoosiers had top-three finishes at the Windon Classic and Isleworth/UCF Invitational to close the fall.

Arkansas (No. 9) and Arizona Sate (No. 10) also cracked the top-10, after being ranked 14th and 11th, respectively, in the previous coaches’ poll. Texas Tech (No. 17), TCU (No. 19) and N.C. State (No. 23) moved into the top-25.
