BEND, OREGON – The David McLay Kidd-designed Tetherow Golf Club was recently selected as one of the “Best New Courses” in the country, by Golfweek Magazine. Tetherow placed seventh on the prestigious listing of the top fifty new courses that have opened in either 2007 or 2008. Golfweek defines new courses as courses having opened in the past two calendar years (2007-2008). This practice is unique to Golfweek and is done to provide Golfweek raters ample time to play the country’s new courses and to ensure their ratings are statistically valid. Amongst courses that opened in 2008 Tetherow was the highest ranked course with next closest in the 2008 class being the tenth ranked Sugarloaf Mountain Town and Country Club in Florida.
The visually striking, Tetherow Golf Club is a par 72, 7298 yard layout that was designed by same the world renowned architect who designed Bandon Dunes and the new Castle Course, the seventh course at St. Andrews, Scotland. Kidd incorporated many of his signature design traits. Traits that include elements of links-style play such as playing the game along the ground as well as the air, in addition to wispy grasses, ragged bunkers, and gnarly knobs and knolls. The routing takes full advantage of the stunning panoramic views of the Cascade peaks including Three Sisters and Broken Top as well as the rugged high desert terrain.
“Golfweek raters are some of the most well traveled and discriminating golfers in the country,” stated Doc Belitz, Vice President of OB Sports (the management company that oversees operations at Tetherow. “It is a true honor that they have ranked Tetherow so high in this prestigious listing of top new courses. Congratulations to the entire team at Tetherow and to David McLay Kidd for creating a what truly is one of the country’s best new courses,” added Belitz. Another OB Sports-managed course, Indian Wells Golf Resort’s Player’s Course, designed by Oregon native, John Fought, also made the ranking at #30.
