SuperStroke™ Player KJ Choi Putts His Way to LG Skins Game Title

INDIAN WELLS, California – Staring down an uphill birdie putt on the final hole, KJ Choi smoothly drew back his putter, fitted with the Super Stroke™ grip, and rolled in the 11-footer worth a cool $270,000. Capturing the skin on the 18th and final hole gave Choi a two-day prize total of $415,000 and the top spot in the 26th LG Skins Game.

A seven-time winner on the PGA Tour, Choi competed in this past weekend’s nationally televised, invitation-only event at Indian Wells in an all-star foursome that included Phil Mickelson, Rocco Mediate, and two-time Skins Game defending champion Stephen Ames.

Choi has credited the SuperStroke grip as being instrumental in his consistent putting over the past two PGA seasons. “It helps me to have my arms closely fit to my body,” he said, “and it takes the wrist action out so that every putt feels more comfortable.” Plus, reduced hand pressure, a result of the SuperStroke’s large diameter, helps prevent pulled or pushed putts.

His winning skin on Sunday’s final hole was Choi’s second of the day – the other being a five-foot eagle putt on the par-five 14th hole. On Saturday, Choi’s birdie putt on No. 3 earned him $75,000 and the lead for the first round. Mickelson won Saturday’s only other skin, worth $25,000. The other holes were halved, many by Choi himself, who recorded four birdies over Saturday’s nine holes.

SuperStroke grips are available in the ProLine Series, which feature a softer surface, as well as the original Classic Series. Choi, long a user of the Classic grip, has recently adopted the ProLine.

At more than an inch and half in diameter – twice that of a conventional putter grip – all SuperStroke grips “fill the hands,” so the tendency to squeeze too tightly is greatly reduced. In addition, the grip’s exclusive and patented, virtually taper-free design promotes even pressure in both the right and left hands, helping to maintain a square putter face. And by keeping the hands “quiet,” the SuperStroke eliminates most wrist action in the putting stroke.

SuperStroke is USGA- and R&A-conforming for regular play and installs in minutes on any putter without any messy adhesives.
