CARLSBAD, Calif. (December 2, 2008) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf today announced a contract extension with PGA Tour player Andres Romero. Currently ranked No. 32 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Romero will continue to play TaylorMade golf clubs, wear the TaylorMade logo on the front of his headwear, use a TaylorMade staff bag and wear adidas Golf footwear and apparel.
“TaylorMade-adidas Golf has been influential in what I have achieved to this point and I’m excited to continue my career with them,” Romero said. “When they come out with new equipment, I have no hesitation to put it in play because I know the level of sophistication behind its creation. I can’t wait for the 2009 season to get started.”
The 26-year old Argentinian is coming off a successful rookie PGA Tour campaign in which he captured his first PGA Tour victory at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans in March, which earned him a position in the Masters for the first time. Romero also qualified for the Tour Championship after finishing 28th in the FedExCup standings. For the season, he earned more than $2 million and finished 35th on the money list – more than any other PGA Tour rookie.
“Andres is one of the most exciting young players in golf and his aggressive and athletic style make him a natural fit for TaylorMade-adidas Golf,” said Chuck Presto, senior vice president of global sports marketing. “Everyone remembers his final round birdie explosion at the 2007 Open Championship and we look forward to more success together over a long Tour career. Andres is already a household name in Argentina and we’re confident his appeal will spread across the rest of the globe in the near future.”
Romero has logged six international victories and has also played exceptionally well in major championships. In eight career major championships, Romero has finished in the top-10 four times, including a breakthrough performance and third-place finish at the 2007 Open Championship plus he was tied for seventh in the 2008 PGA Championship and tied for eighth in the 2008 Masters.
