Golf Swing’s Biggest Myth: “Keep Your Head Down,” Says Reynolds Golf Academy Director Charlie King

Greensboro, Ga. (Dec. 8, 2008) – Keeping your head down is not the secret to a good golf swing, says Charlie King, the director of instruction at the Reynolds Golf Academy at Reynolds Plantation, whose newly available e-book exposes the myths in golf instruction, while offering golf tips that really will make a difference.

“We have been playing golf for more than three centuries, but t here are millions of golfers out there who still don’t why they can’t hit the golf ball squarely,” King said. “I can do something about that, by giving them the right information.”

King’s innovative approach to golf lessons is central to his 2000 paperback, “You’re NOT Lifting Your Head,” in which he debunks the misguided belief that golfers must keep their heads virtually motionless and their eyes fixated to the turf between their toes in order to execute a proper golf swing. A complimentary copy of the text now can be downloaded at www.reynoldsgolfacademy.com.

“That is the No. 1 untruth in golf instruction,” King says. “Anyone who has ever dreamed to become a better golfer should download the book and see for themselves. It only takes 10 minutes and they have nothing to lose.”

The book is the forerunner to King’s campaign for what he calls, “The New Rules Of Golf Instruction,” which abandon traditional teaching techniques in favor of ways golfers learn “real, usable golf skills,” King said.

Ranked among the Top 100 golf instructors in America, King has built a reputation for his fresh approach to teaching – “ideas I know will work,” he said. A 16-year member of the PGA of America, King focuses on the individual. “It’s not only learning the right things to do, but learning the things that are right for you,” he said.

Also an occasionally irreverent golf humorist, King’s satirical video, “The Proper Way To Throw Your Club,” drew more than a million hits when it debuted on the Internet earlier this year. His newest video, “The Three Secrets Of Using Slow Play As A Weapon,” is currently getting Internet hits daily.

King has been a featured guest instructor on The Golf Channel’s Academy Live show and has appeared on numerous radio and television shows. His more recently published golf instruction book, “Red Zone Challenge,” which focuses on shots from 100 yards and less, is now a syndicated golf reality television show.

The Reynolds Golf Academy is a state-of-the-art golf learning center inspired by the rich and varied golf traditions of Atlanta and the legendary heritage of Augusta – both o nly an hour’s drive away. Adjacent to Rees Jones’ much-lauded Oconee Course and the AAA Five Diamond Award-winning Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, the Reynolds Golf Academy welcomes students to the 16-acre, 6,550 square foot campus that frames a flexible and creative academy adaptable to golfers at all levels.

Programs at the Reynolds Golf Academy include individual lessons, clinics, and corporate outings. Stand-out components include King’s Red Zone Challenge Short Game Three-Day School, based on his national 12-week challenge and classic instruction manual, “Golf’s Red Zone Challenge.”

Students at Reynolds Golf Academy enjoy full access to an expansive driving range, four indoor hitting bays, a 600 square foot putting studio, two fully-enclosed full-swing studios, as well as dining and classroom facilities.

The nearby TaylorMade Performance Lab ups the ante with preferred pricing on its state-of-the-art motion capture video technology and custom club fitting at a facility that’s one of only four in the U.S. golfers can experience.
