NORTHBROOK, Ill., Jan. 9, 2009 – Pierce County today announced that it has extended its management agreement with KemperSports to operate Chambers Bay Golf Course beyond the 2015 U.S. Open to be held at Chambers Bay.

The course, located in the city of University Place on the Puget Sound, will also host the 2010 U.S. Amateur. It was recently awarded America’s Best New Public Course of 2008 in Golf Digest’s January 2009 issue.

Chambers Bay was designed by the team of Robert Trent Jones Jr., Bruce Charlton and Jay Blasi, is the first Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed golf course to host a U.S. Open. It is also the first course in the Northwest ever to host a U.S. Open.

“The professionalism and leadership of KemperSports are among the reasons Chambers Bay was awarded two of golf’s most prestigious championships less than a year after opening,” said Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg. “We’re depending on them to maintain the quality of this world-class facility and have it in top shape for the Amateur and Open.”

KemperSports has managed the property since its opening in 2007 and participated in the efforts of attracting and being selected to host both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur within its first eight months of operation.

“We are already working on preparing the course for the Championships in 2010 and 2015,” said Josh Lesnik, President of KemperSports, who oversees Chambers Bay as well as Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on Oregon’s southwest coast for KemperSports. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Pierce County and to bringing the golf world to the Pierce County community.”

Chambers Bay is located 12 miles south of Tacoma and just 30 miles from Seattle’s Sea-Tac International Airport.
