2009 GCSANC Annual Meeting Slated for SF’s Presidio GC

Northern California Golf Course Superintendents Honor Industry Leaders

San Francisco, CA- The Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of Northern California (GCSANC) 2009 Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony is set for Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Presidio Golf Club in San Francisco, CA.

The day will kick-off with morning golf on a course known for its narrow fairways and strategically-positioned bunkers. To follow will be a luncheon meeting and awards ceremony at the historic Presidio Golf Club where GCSANC members will be honored for their contributions to the association, turf care industry, and local community. According to GCSANC Awards Chairman Brian Bagley the following individuals will be recognized for exceptional service: Steve Byrne (Mira Vista Golf & Country Club)-Golf Course Superintendent of the Year; David Sexton, CGCS, (The Meadow Club), Distinguished Service Award; Pete Bowman, CGCS, (Target Specialty Products)-Bert Graves Memorial Affiliate Award; Scott Lewis, CGCS, (Menlo Country Club) Turfgrass Excellence- Private Category; and Brian Boyer (Cinnabar Hills Golf Club) Turfgrass Excellence- Public Category.

The event will also include a motivating presentation from Medal of Honor recipient, U.S. Army Sergeant Major Jon R. Cavaiani (Ret.). “You can expect our keynote speaker to be both informative and inspirational,” stated GCSANC president and host superintendent Brian Nettz, CGCS. “Mr. Cavaiani will share details on how he overcame adversity throughout his military career, but preserved and grew both personally and professionally from the experience.” In addition to the prestigious Medal of Honor, Cavaiani has received other distinctions including the Legion of Valor, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (Valor) and Purple Heart.

Election of new directors/officers and a year-in-review (highlighting GCSANC programs and services) are also on the agenda for the day. In addition, chapter members, directors and officers who’ve volunteered time/service to the association will be duly recognized in the presence of their peers. The GCSANC Annual Meeting is expected to attract more than 100 golf course superintendents and turf care industry leaders.

The GCSANC is dedicated to serving its members, advancing their profession and enhancing the enjoyment of the game through its ongoing Ball Mark Repair Education Program, and its support of industry initiatives including: The First Tee, Play Golf America, Golf 20/20’s Get Golf Ready program, and Doctor’s Orders: Play Golf.
