ALAMEDA, Calif., Jan. 13, 2009 – The City of Alameda has selected KemperSports to manage its 36-hole Chuck Corica Golf Complex located across the bay from San Francisco. The historic complex features the Early Fry golf course, the Jack Clark golf course and the lighted, 47-stall Lucious Bateman Driving Range. KemperSports will assume operation of the facility this month.

After a nationwide search in a highly competitive process, KemperSports was chosen to manage the facility for their experience in managing other municipal facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. KemperSports currently manages 12 courses in California including Harding Park in San Francisco, host of the 2009 President’s Cup.

“KemperSports is the right firm to help us preserve, protect, and enhance this wonderful community asset and ensure its economic viability,” said Debra Kurita, City Manager of the City of Alameda. “We look forward to working with them in the future.”

Built in 1929 by William Park Bell, who also designed Bel-Air Country Club, La Cumbre Country Club and Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, the Early Fry golf course is a local favorite. Jack Clack golf course is a William Francis Bell-designed layout that offers golfers a British-style, links course with windswept fairways, sandy waste areas and large true greens. The highly acclaimed facility is the annual host of the Alameda Commuters Golf Tournament, which has been played at Chuck Corica Golf Complex since 1928, when golfers commuted via ferry to San Francisco.

“We look forward to working with the City of Alameda,” said Steve Skinner, CEO of KemperSports. “It has enjoyed a long and rich history in the Bay Area golf community and we are anxious to enhance the golf experience.”
