Experts at the leading Sports Technology Institute in the UK, Loughborough University, demonstrated that prolonged use of a 2Thumb putter grip improves putting performance.
2Thumb, the innovative putting company, are delighted to report that an exhaustive independent study into putting results, has scientifically proved conclusively that their putter grips promote a smoother pendulum-like putting stroke which improves putting accuracy.
The independent tests carried out under laboratory conditions consisted of twelve amateur golfers performing a series of putts, ranging from five to thirty feet in distance, using both a standard putter grip and a 2Thumb grip. Four different putter head types, provided by leading manufacturers, were also used in the study, while the motions of the body and putter head were simultaneously tracked throughout the putting stroke. In addition, overall balance, body and shoulder alignment, arm and shoulder motion, putter shaft and putter head movement were examined at address, back swing, ball impact and follow-through. Ball movement post-strike was recorded using a high speed camera.
Results proved overwhelmingly that both body and putter head movements were improved using the 2Thumb grip by creating a more natural stance for a pendulum motion. In addition, ball hop, skid and first roll distances were also significantly reduced.
A delighted Philip H Gazeley, PGA Coach and designer of the 2Thumb Putter Grip, commented: “The consequential benefits of a wider grip to effect a natural putting position and body rotation have never been technically explored.”
Gazeley continued by saying, “Independent validation from Loughborough University’s internationally respected Sports Technology Institute will further strengthen 2Thumb Putter Grip sales within the worldwide golfing market which exceeds 100 million users.”
The results also concluded the following benefits of a 2Thumb putter grip compared to a standard grip:
Improved lower body stability
Improved shoulder alignment
Better body position
Better shaft angle
Flatter putter head lie
Minimal wrist break
Improved impact position
This news is very timely for 2Thumb, as it coincides with the launch at the PGA Merchandise Show, Orlando, booth #2231, of their new Pro-Light, the lightest 2Thumb putter grip yet at only 75 grams.
The Pro-Light joins the other grips in the 2Thumb putter series – namely the ‘Original’, ‘Light’ and ‘Shorty’ – all of which have been designed by putting coach Philip H Gazeley and, when combined with its unique design and putting technique (two thumbs side-by-side), are now independently proved to improve putting accuracy.
