Nike Golf’s Paul Casey Wins his Ninth European Tour Victory with a full 14-club bag of Nike Golf products
With a full bag of Nike Golf products, Paul Casey captured the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship for a second time using Nike Golf technology. In Casey’s first win of the 2009 season, his pin-seeking iron shots with his Nike Victory Red (VR) irons led him to beat the competition. “I am delighted to have won again here in Abu Dhabi. It’s a great start to the season,” said Casey. “I have worked very hard on my game over the winter and this, combined with the new VR irons in the bag, has made the difference between winning and all the top 10 finishes I have had over the last two years.” Casey took advantage of a mixed set of Nike VR irons by putting into play a 3, 4 and 5-iron from the VR Forged Split Cavity line and 6-PW from the VR Forged TW Blade line. His mixed set of VR’s led him to a seventh-place finish in greens in regulation averaging 82% for the tournament. With Casey shooting impressive rounds of 69-65-63-70, these Tour-inspired irons have proven that they are in fact synonymous with “victory.”
Since switching to the VR irons in September 2008, Casey has seen positive results. “For me, they go about two to three yards farther than my old set.” The VR Forged TW Blades feature a more traditional muscle back design that includes a conspicuous and recognizable “TW” mark. Made of 1025 Forged Carbon Steel with a CNC milled face, the Victory Red Forged TW Blades differentiate from Nike’s original Blades with a more modified backpad and a slightly thicker toe. Nike’s Victory Red Forged Split Cavity irons feature a split back design that positions the center of gravity behind the sweet spot for ball control while providing forgiveness.
Casey also used the successful Nike SQ driver and the new Nike ONE Tour ball. With this new winning combination, Casey finished fifth in driving distance with an average of 302 yards. Rounding out Casey’s Nike arsenal were his Nike SQ II 3 and 5 fairway wood, VR Forged wedges 52 and 59-degree, Nike prototype putter and Nike ONE Tour ball. Completing his Nike head-to-toe look, Casey wore Nike Golf Tour apparel, the new Nike Air Zoom Elite II footwear, Nike Dri-FIT Tour glove and Nike eyewear.
In the last three years, Nike Golf has led the PGA Tour in iron wins as well as having the winningest driver/ball combination. With Nike’s new SQ DYMO drivers, Victory Red irons, and Nike ONE Tour and Nike ONE Tour D balls, 2009 could be another year of swoosh domination on the PGA Tour.
