(Grand Rapids Mich.) Fresh off their exciting run last fall competing together as the only married couple on the Golf Channel’s The Big Break X: Michigan, Casey and Rachel Lubahn will be appearing at the 21st West Michigan Golf Show at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids, February 13-15. Befitting the Valentine’s Day weekend, the talented golf duo will be on the seminar stage on Saturday and Sunday where they’ll talk about their Big Break experiences as well as share instructional advice for competitors, spouses and juniors alike. The Lubahns appeared on the first seven episodes of the 11-week golf reality series, taped at Boyne Highlands Resort. The 10th edition of the series featured eight two-person teams, comprised of a male and female, in a weekly skills challenge. Although they didn’t win the overall competition, the Lubahns were popular and generous-minded contestants. In fact, they donated $10,000 in winnings from one episode’s skills challenge to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI.
Having met at Michigan State University where they both competed on the golf teams, the Lubahns boast stellar golf credentials. Rachel (nee Miekle) was a four-year letter winner at M.S.U., highlighted by her first-place finish at the 2007 Big Ten Championship, helping the Spartans to their first team title since 2001. A native of Fort Wayne, Rachel owns the eighth-lowest career stroke average in M.S.U. history with a 77.50 average.
From Sand Lake, MI, Casey was a three-year letter winner at M.S.U. and served as captain as a senior. His career stroke average of 75.0 was the fifth lowest in program history. Upon graduation in 2004, Casey became an Assistant Men’s Golf Coach for the Spartans (2004-06; 2007-08) helping the team to Big Ten titles in 2005, 2007 and 2008. In August 2008, Casey was named the head men’s golf coach at Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he and Rachel now reside.
“With their skills and background, we’re absolutely thrilled to have Casey and Rachel be a part of the Golf Show,” said Carolyn Alt, Show Manager. “And considering it’s the Valentine’s Day weekend, it’s definitely a sweetheart of an opportunity to hear them on stage.” In addition to the Lubahns, on stage will be headliner and nationally acclaimed teacher Rick Smith of Treetops Resort whom coincidentally was instrumental in the debut of The Big Break series ten years ago. In its inaugural season, the now iconic series was taped at Treetops in Gaylord and Smith was one of the weekly television hosts.
