(VIENNA, VA) – Furthering its leadership in growing the participation base of golfers, Billy Casper Golf (“BCG”) – owner and operator of golf courses acrossAmerica – has been named a Founding Contributor of “Get Golf Ready,” the nationally-branded program created and administered by the World Golf Foundation (“WGF”).
BCG has committed to three years of support for “Get Golf Ready” that is part of the WGF’s GOLF 20/20: Vision for the Future initiative. Many BCG courses will add this “best-practices” element to their adult learning curriculums.
“Get Golf Ready” targets millions of U.S. adults who have never played golf, have minimal previous connection to the game or need rejuvenation after a hiatus. Designed to be conducted in comfortable and enjoyable settings, participants are provided – at a very low cost – background and skills training on rules, etiquette and values, and a series of five introductory lessons in small groups. Golfers then transition to on-going playing opportunities with PGA and LPGA professionals as on-course mentors.
“The enthusiastic support of Billy Casper Golf and other industry leaders for ‘Get Golf Ready’ is gratifying,” says Steve Mona, CEO of World Golf Foundation. “We’re delighted to be able to provide courses with a consistent approach to their player development efforts, and to provide students with a chance to learn the game in a relaxed and welcoming format. We believe ‘Get Golf Ready’ will energize many people to become loyal long-term participants in our game.”
“Billy Casper Golf is excited to help lead ‘Get Golf Ready’ in its early stage,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG. “Teaching golf as a fun and invigorating sport is one of the cornerstones of Billy Casper Golf, and ‘Get Golf Ready’ compliments our participation in ‘Play Golf America,’ ‘Take Your Daughter to the Course Week’ and more.”
“Get Golf Ready” is the lead program for 2009 under the PGA of America’s “Play Golf America” umbrella. Officials predict “Get Golf Ready” will be offered at 700 facilities in 2009 and 3,000 by the end of 2011.
