Pat Perez Captures Bob Hope Classic Playing New 2009 Pro V1 Golf Ball.
Fairhaven, MA (January 26, 2009) – Pat Perez secured his first career PGA TOUR title by capturing the 50th Bob Hope Classic relying upon the New 2009 Pro V1x golf ball. Perez becomes the first player to win with the new model, and the third straight Titleist golf ball loyalist to win through the first three events on the 2009 PGA TOUR.
Perez finished the 90-hole event at 33-under 327, posting a 3-under 69 in a wind-swept final round. He topped Titleist Brand Ambassador John Merrick (Pro V1x, 907D2 driver, 906F3 3-wood, 909H hybrid, ZM irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport Studio Select) by three shots, and was five clear of fourth round leader and Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker (Pro V1, 909D3 driver, 906F2 3-wood, 585H hybrid, 755 irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges) and Mike Weir (Pro V1), as Titleist golf ball players secured the top four positions on the leaderboard.
– The 32-year-old Perez, playing in the final group, locked up the victory by knocking his approach shot from 200 yards on the final hole to 3 feet to set up an eagle.
– Merrick’s second-place finish was the highest for the 26-year-old, who is beginning his third full season on the TOUR.
– Stricker established the PGA TOUR-record for consecutive low rounds with a 61-62 on Friday-Saturday.
– Stricker was also 33-under after four rounds, bettering the tour’s 72-hole record of 31-under.
– Ten of the 13 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.

– Playing in just his second event since earning his PGA TOUR card, rookie Webb Simpson tied for 5th, following a T9 performance at last week’s Sony open in Hawaii.
– Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Bob Hope Classic with 92 players (72%), more than five times the nearest competitor with 16. The New 2009 Pro V1x was the most played ball at the event with 23 players, followed by the New 2009 Pro V1 with 21. The New 2009 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls will be officially launched at the PGA Merchandise Show this week and begin shipping to golf shops in mid-February.
Titleist was also first in iron sets (38), wedges (122) and putters (47), and second in drivers (29) and fairway metals (T-39).
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Bernhard Langer (Pro V1) opened the 2009 Champions Tour season with a one shot win at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Langer fired a final round 4-under 68 to finish at 18-under par 198, edging fellow Titleist Pro V1 player Andy Bean. Titleist Brand Ambassador Jay Haas (New 2009 Pro V1, 905R driver, 904F fairway metals, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Laguna 2.5) finished solo third at 15-under, as Titleist players secured the top three positions on the leaderboard.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the limited-field event with 22 players (65%), compared to 6 for the nearest competitor.
SOUTH AFRICA (SUNSHINE TOUR): Deane Pappas (Pro V1x) captured his second career Sunshine Tour title, firing a final round 4-under 68 and cruising to an eight-shot victory at the Dimension Data Pro-Am. James Kamte (Pro V1x) closed with a 5-under 67 to finish in solo second at 12-under 276. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Dimension Data Pro-Am with 102 players (73%), more than three times the nearest competitor with 31.
WORLDWIDE WINS: With three more wins this week, Titleist players are off to a fast start in 2009, accumulating 11 victories across the worldwide professional tours.
