Palm Beach Gardens, FL (January 28, 2009) – Two of the world’s greatest golf instructors now call PGA National Resort & Spa home. The new “PGA National Golf Academy,” featuring the Dave Pelz Scoring Game School and David Leadbetter Golf Academy plus a new Hot Stix Golf Performance Center, celebrated an official launch on Wednesday, January 28. The event featured demonstrations and interviews with Dave Pelz and David Leadbetter as well as several of their top instructors and Hot Stix certified custom fitter Chris Marsh. PGA National is the world’s first and only location to be home to both of these elite instructional programs.
“It’s great to be at the other end of the range from Leadbetter,” said Pelz, explaining that the two have been discussing opening golf instruction programs on the same campus for ten years. “This facility has all the components of a premier golf destination,” added Leadbetter. “And it’s great to be here with Pelz.”
Dave Pelz, the world’s foremost authority on the short game and putting, has been relied upon by top playing professionals including Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and Mike Weir. Pelz Golf Institute Research has proven that golfers lose almost eighty percent of their shots to par inside of 100 yards from the hole. To that end, the Pelz curriculum focuses strictly on what Dave defines as “The Scoring Game.”
Known as the “Father of the Modern Golf Swing,” David Leadbetter has taught some of the greatest players in the world including Ernie Els (2008 Honda Classic champion), Nick Price, Trevor Immelman, Greg Norman and Charles Howell III. With the first Academy opened in 1983, the David Leadbetter Golf Academy now provides amateur golfers access to world-class instruction in 13 countries around the globe. The Leadbetter golf instruction philosophy offers a blueprint for improving the game of golfers of all ages and abilities.
Both top coaches employ an elite team of instructors who have completed the teaching legends’ rigorous training and certification programs. One, two and three day programs are offered for both resort guests and non-guests.
PGA National has played host to more professional golf tournaments than any other resort in the country and is current home to the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic. Five championship courses, including the famed Champion course, home of The Bear Trap, are complemented by a stunning 381 room resort. A recently completed $65 million renovation has given PGA National a refreshing facelift including a contemporary new front entrance, lobby, lounge and restaurant in addition to a brand-new lush resort pool, upgraded dining and meeting locations and new member’s clubhouse.
