Moves into the Top 10 in the World Golf Rankings and up to No. 1 on the PGA Tour Money List
CARLSBAD, Calif. (February 2, 2009) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Kenny Perry picked up where he left off in 2008 by winning the 2009 FBR Open yesterday. Perry’s resurgence, which included multiple victories and a Ryder Cup berth last year, continued in the desert where he rolled in a 22-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to win for the 13th time on the PGA Tour.
Using a TaylorMade Tour Burner® driver, Perry ranked in the top 10 in driving distance despite that he’s just two years from Champions Tour eligibility, averaging 311.1 per tee shot.* He also struck the ball straight and solid from the fairway, ranking third in greens in regulation with the help of his r7® irons.
“The game has not passed me by yet,” said Perry after the playoff. “A lot of guys…[have] actually gotten shorter, where I’ve actually gotten longer. I still hit as far as anybody. At my age, as healthy as I am, I don’t back down to anybody.”
Perry’s victory moved him into the top 10 in the World Golf Rankings (from 15th to 9th) and into first place on the PGA Tour money list. His victory was also the second consecutive win for a TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff pro; last week Pat Perez won the Bob Hope Classic using TaylorMade’s new R9™ driver with Flight Control and Movable Weight Technologies.
Five of the top-10 finishers at the FBR Open played a TaylorMade driver, while three of the five played the new R9 driver.**
