California Woman to be Honored for Volunteer Service at Association Conference

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, February 5, 2009 — The EWGA has named Tyra Jarvis of Auburn, California as the 2008 recipient of the Nancy Oliver Founder’s Award. She will receive the award, the organization’s highest honor for its volunteer leaders, at the awards gala dinner during the 2009 EWGA “Dare to Lead, Dare to Grow” Conference at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California on February 18 -21.

Named after EWGA founder Nancy Oliver, the Nancy Oliver Founder’s Award was started in 2000 to annually recognize an EWGA member who has displayed exceptional long-term leadership and service to the organization. Jarvis exemplifies the dedication and service that is the spirit and mission of the EWGA to connect women to learn, play and enjoy golf for business and for fun.

A member and former president of the Sacramento, CA EWGA chapter, Jarvis has served in various EWGA volunteer leader roles for the past decade. She has been a California section director and served on the EWGA Association Board of Directors from 2001 through 2006. During her EWGA board service, she co-chaired the development of the association’s first strategic plan and was board president in 2004 and 2005.

Following a 30 year career in telecommunications at Pacific Bell, Jarvis became the Vice President of Customer Care with SAI, a privately owned Internet application service provider. She has a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento and an MBA in Telecommunications from the University of San Francisco.

“Volunteer leadership is the backbone of our organization,” says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA. “It is because of the thousands of women like Tyra who give freely of their time and talents that the EWGA continues to thrive. They share a passion for the game, provide the welcoming environment that attracts and keeps more women playing golf, and through volunteering develop and hone their own professional skills.”

Founded in 1991 as the Executive Women’s Golf Association, the EWGA is dedicated to connecting women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and fun. There are currently over 125 chapters throughout the United States with international chapters in Canada and France, each run by volunteer leaders. The chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.

The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the EWGA and its membership, visit www.ewga.com.
