TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff Professional Mike Weir Inducted into Canadian Golf Hall of Fame

CARLSBAD, Calif. (February 13, 2009)- TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Mike Weir, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour and the 2003 Masters champion, has been inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will coincide with the 100th RBC Canadian Open, which begins July 23 at Glenn Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont.

“I have so much that I still want to accomplish both on the course and [off],” said Weir, the only Canadian to win a Major Championships. “This honor will always rank as one of the greatest of my career.”

Weir, 38, is the 20th male professional and 64th member overall to be inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, which was formed in 1971 and recognizes outstanding professionals, amateurs and builders of the game.

Currently ranked No. 24 in the official World Golf Rankings, Weir has represented Canada in the World Cup five times, and is the first Canadian to play in the Presidents Cup, in which he has competed four times, including the 2007 matches held in Montreal. A captain’s pick, Weir rose to the occasion by posting a 3-1-1 record in the International’s losing effort, which he capped with a singles victory over Tiger Woods.

Weir has also been appointed to the Order of Canada and is has been honored three times as The Canadian Press male athlete of the year.
