When a professional golfer does well with a golf club on national television, golfing aficionados take notice. That was the case this week when the 20th ranked golfer in the world carded a final round of 2-under-par 69 and finished in third place at the Northern Trust Open using a jumbo SuperStroke Putter Grip. The red and black Proline grip received a hefty amount of exposure over the weekend on the greens of Riviera Country Club.
The 10-year tour veteran using the grip, who came into the final round at 11-under, has won three PGA Tour events with the SuperStroke, made consecutive birdies at Nos. 12 and 13 and drained a four-foot birdie putt on the 17th, which put him within one stroke of the lead. He ended up earning his first Top10 finish of the season and finished with a putting average of 28.3 per round. With the finish, he moved from 50th to 20th in the 2009 FedEx point standings.
The native of South Korea, tied for 15th and 12th at the Mercedes-Benz Championship and Sony Open, where he finished 9th in putting and 13th in putts per round, respectively. The player has now earned $535,808 in 4 events this season.
“It helps me to have my arms closely fit to my body,” said the 3rd place finisher. “It takes the wrist action out so every putt feels more comfortable.”
The player added that reduced hand pressure, a result of the SuperStroke’s large diameter, helps prevent pulled or pushed putts. The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips.
The SuperStroke grip has one flat side, that can be used facing forward, backward, left, or right. SuperStroke works for any type of grip, from conventional, to cross-handed, to the claw. The SuperStroke installs quickly and easily to any putter.
Tiger Shark Golf, a Michigan-based club manufacturer, acquired SuperStroke in January, making them the predominant oversized putter grip company in the industry.
