Inclement Weather Information Communicated Directly To Golfers
SUNRISE, FL (March 3, 2009) -Thor Guard, Inc. the leader in lightning prediction and warning systems, has formed an exclusive partnership to deliver its product to golf courses with Sarasota based GPS Industries, a leading international developer of global positioning systems and Wi-Fi multimedia solutions for golf facilities, resorts and residential communities.
Already installed at over one thousand golf courses, Thor Guard provides lightning prediction and warnings as well as live-streaming local radar. This new partnership will send Thor Guard’s weather information directly to GPSI’s cart mounted screens via a RF and Wi-Fi Internet connection, providing a valuable safety feature and protection for players, staff and equipment.
States Ben Porter, GPSI’s COO and President: “This partnership between two industry leading systems will instantly create product awareness for GPSI at numerous golf courses already using Thor Guard. Courses can now offer golfers instant automated warning messages anywhere on a golf course at the first sign of danger. We think this makes good business sense for golf course operators, who can take the protection of both lives and equipment into the 21st century.”
Thor Guard is the only stand-alone lightning warning device used by the USGA, American Junior Golf Association, Royal Canadian Golf Association, Canadian, European and South African Tours, PGA of America Jr. Series and many PGA sections as well as at thousands of public, private and resort golf facilities. Thor Guard is also used by the Department of Homeland Security and many non-golf companies including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Air Canada, United Airlines, Fed Ex, Motorola, AT&T, and more than 700 universities, schools and municipalities. Thor Guard is at airports, ski areas and NFL stadiums.
States Bob Dugan, President of Thor Guard: “The new partnership is exciting not only for our company but also for all the individuals who will benefit from this weather technology available on the golf course. In-cart weather data greatly enhances the players’ ability to make a weather-related decision, ensuring their safety while enjoying an outdoor activity, with an increased level of comfort and peace of mind.”
The Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System has operated accurately and safely for millions of hours. Its highly sophisticated sensor and computer measures and analyzes the atmospheric electrostatic field. The system reliably predicts the occurrence and probability of a lightning hazard in an area up to 25 square miles, even when no visible lightning exists. More importantly, it provides a specific risk reading for each golf facility. It differs from all other lightning detection systems that require an actual lightning episode before a warning is given; this can be too late, which is why Thor Guard is preferred worldwide and will be integrated with GPSI’s on-cart screens.
“Thor Guard Weather™ offers the fastest and most comprehensive online weather subscription service in North America. The service is utilized within every sector of Thor Guard’s vast customer base, and anchors unsurpassed meteorological services to the USGA and Canadian Golf Tour,” adds Dugan.
“Our exclusive partnership with Thor Guard adds a significant new advantage to GPSI’s Informer Management System,” states Ben Porter. “It also opens the door for us to showcase our industry leading products and services to thousands of potential new customers, and will instantly bring GPSI to the attention of many of golf’s governing organizations worldwide. We believe this is a great partnership for our company, and underscores management’s commitment to bringing the best possible product to our clients.”
