Chicago Classic Open to Public; On Rotation with Medinah, Olympia Fields as IPGA Section Championship Host
MARCH 16, 2009-GRAYSLAKE, IL-Stonewall Orchard Golf Club will serve as Midwest Sectional Qualifying site for the 2009 U.S. Open on Monday, May 25. One of only a handful of daily public fee courses nationally to host this final stage qualifier, Stonewall Orchard was the first Arthur Hills-designed layout to open in Chicago back in 1999.
Since then the course has hosted local U.S. qualifiers in 2003 and 2005, the Georgia Pacific Super Seniors event on the Senior PGA Tour, has been named fifth best public course in Chicagoland by Golf Digest and has a home in the popular “Zagat Guide to America’s Top Golf Courses.
The 7,100-yard course plays through heavily wooded, mature Oaks and Pines and also shares the spotlight as host site of the Illinois PGA Section Championship with legendary private clubs Medinah and Olympia Fields. Stonewall Orchard will host this year’s IPGA Section Championship in September.
“We’re going to be the place that makes someone’s dream come true by sending him straight to Bethpage Black for this year’s U.S. Open,” said Jeff Pajula, Stonewall Orchard Director of Golf. “We’ve been Chicago’s hidden secrets for many years and we’re just thrilled to have the ability to host events of this magnitude.”
Designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, Stonewall Orchard features natural, rolling landscapes throughout its magnificent 18-hole Lake County layout and features an abundance of tranquil wetlands and wildlife. From the 4,968-yard junior short course to the 7,074-yard, par 72 championship layout, each hole provides its own identity while completely immersing the golfing public into nature.
