Madinat Makadi Golf Course opens near the Egyption Red Sea

Jupiter, FL (March 17, 2009) – The new Madinat Makadi Golf Course at Madinat Makadi Golf Resort, is golf course architect John Sanford’s latest design in Egypt, located near the beautiful Red Sea. The new course opened in January.

Sanford has created a wonderful routing overlooking the coastline of the Red Sea. The Madinat Makadi Golf Course meanders through the sandy slopes above the beachside resort offering panoramic views of the sea. This new championship layout is the third course of its kind for this growing resort destination.

The course, which measures 7,500 yards, features six sets of tees, which can be played by golfers of all levels including juniors from 4,500 yards. The front nine is routed on the flatter portion of the site featuring three lakes that are connected by rock-lined creeks and two cascading waterfalls. The back nine is the more dramatic of the two nines, featuring more elevation changes with four holes located in ancient wadiis.

Complimenting the fine layout, Sanford has designed a beautiful 20-acre practice facility along with a 9-hole short course with three additional practice holes.

“The course will present a variety of shot-making opportunities for all levels of golfers, including beginners who will love the short course,” said Sanford. “I am also excited to see this region continue to grow and emerge as a golf destination. This is a wonderful golf resort and perfect for Europeans looking for a unique golf experience near the Red Sea.”

The Madinat Makadi Golf Course is part of the Madinat Makadi Golf Resort, a premier luxury resort that also includes the popular 5-star Jaz Makadi Golf Hotel. This luxury combination of world-class golf and accommodations makes this one of the premier golf resort destinations in the region. The course is owned by Travco, the largest tour operator in Egypt and plans to cater to northern European clientele.

The Madinat Makadi Golf Course is one of seven projects John Sanford has under construction or opened in Egypt making him one of the leading experts on course design in the region. Other courses John has designed in Egypt include Jolie Ville Golf Resort, Taba Heights, Palm Hills, and Hacienda Bay.

John Sanford’s golf design company, based in Jupiter Florida, has completed more than 60 new golf course design and renovation projects. Sanford has worked on projects around the world in Asia, the Caribbean, Middle East, and throughout the United States. For more information, visit www.sanfordgolfdesign.com.
