Sixth Worldwide Win in 2009 for the TaylorMade TP Ball
CARLSBAD, Calif. (March 23, 2009) – TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Retief Goosen shot a one-under-par 70 in major championship-like conditions Sunday to win the Transitions Championship.
Goosen’s past U.S. Open success — he won at Southern Hills in 2001 and Shinnecock Hills in 2004 — served him well on the Innisbrook Copperhead Course, with its narrow fairways, deep greenside rough and firm, exceptionally fast greens. Toss in some wind and you had one of the toughest Sundays a tour pro is likely to face this year. Fortunately, Goosen played the TP Black™ with LDP golf ball, which promotes extra spin and which, along with the TP Red™ with LDP, has been praised by tour pros for how well it holds its line in the wind.
The victory was the third on the PGA Tour and sixth worldwide for a TaylorMade TP golf ball in 2009.
Goosen’s combination of TP Black with LDP and TaylorMade’sTour Preferred® irons helped him rank T7 in greens in regulation, a critical stat on a course where getting up-and-down was exceptionally demanding.*
Goosen also played a new R9™ 5-wood featuring TaylorMade’s innovative new Flight Control Technology (FCT), which allows players to easily adjust the head characteristics – face angle, loft and lie — in eight ways.
TaylorMade ranked as the No. 1 brand of driver, fairway wood and hybrid (T1) played
at the Transitions Championship. **
