SuperStroke staff player Matt Bettencourt carded a 6-under 65 at Le Triomphe Country Club and tied for third place at this week’s Nationwide Tour Chitimacha Louisiana Open, the first U.S. Nationwide event of the season.
Bettencourt started using an oversized jumbo the grip last season on the Nationwide Tour and it has made all the difference in the world. Matt was ranked 90th on the money list when he switched to the Super Stroke Grip and went on to finish the year with two victories and 3 Top 10 finishes. His victory at the Nationwide Tour Championship propelled him to end the year #1 on the final official money list.
“I switched to the SuperStroke Grip 13 weeks ago,” said Bettencourt after his victory at the 2008 Nationwide Tour Championship. “I went from around 150 to the top 50 in putting. It’s made all the difference in the world for me. It’s taken my hands out of it. I got really back and forth with the belly putter. But with this SuperStroke Grip, it’s been fantastic. It really changed my game.”
Bettencourt didn’t make it into the elite field at this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard in Florida. He ranked 23rd in putts per round at the Louisiana event and despite being a full time PGA TOUR player in 2009, he now sits T26th on the Nationwide Tour money list after just one event. He has also made 3 cuts on the PGA TOUR this year.
About SuperStroke
The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips. The Super Stroke’s size encourages use of a “soft hands” technique and ensures a smooth and fluid putting stroke.
The SuperStroke installs quickly and easily to any putter. It is USGA conforming, and legal for tournament play. The SuperStroke has one flat side, that can be used facing forward, backward, left, or right. SuperStroke works for any type of grip, from conventional, to cross-handed, to the claw. KJ Choi, a SuperStroke staff member, has won three times on the PGA TOUR with the oversized SuperStroke grips. To learn more or to order a grip directly, please visit www.superstrokegrips.com
