Multilayer, zero-compression core ball recognized for second consecutive year
CHICAGO, March 31, 2009 – Wilson Golf today announced that its improved three-piece Wilson Staff Zip Ball was honored with a silver award in Golf Digest’s 2009 Hot List. Introduced in 2008, the original Zip Ball was also recognized on last year’s Hot List.
The Hot List was compiled based on efficiencies in performance, innovation, feel and demand. According to the May 2009 issue of Golf Digest, the Zip Ball’s “high launch on driver and wedges makes this ideal for medium-speed swings.”
Wilson Staff Zip is a three-piece golf ball with the world’s first zero compression core. This patent-pending core is made from a proprietary blend of neodymium catalyzed polybutadiene that delivers unmatched soft feel with no sacrifice in distance. Surrounding this super-soft core is a high-velocity DuPont polymer mantle layer responsible for generating increased spin. This multilayer “engine” is then wrapped with a soft ionomer cover providing tour-caliber soft feel and touch.
Outside, the new PhD (pan-head dimple) aerodynamic pattern features 302 shallow, flat-bottomed dimples that produce more stable ball flight, especially at lower speeds and windy conditions. The revised 302-dimple configuration (the original Zip featured 312 dimples) improves scuff-resistance by broadening the fret area between dimples.
