(ATHENS, GA) – Jennings Mill Country Club – managed by Billy Casper Golf – will host the Nationwide Tour Athens Regional Foundation Classic, Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19.
The 72-hole, stroke-play tournament will be contested by 156 golfers – including defending champion Robert Damron and 50 former and current PGA TOUR members – and carries a $550,000 purse. Jennings Mill has hosted the Nationwide Tour event since 2006 and been home to the PGA TOURQualifying School since 1997.
Joining Damron are fellow PGA TOUR players Bobby Clampett, Brad Elder, Carlos Franco, Skip Kendall, Frank Lickliter II, Andrew Magee, Bob May and Grant Waite. Former University of Georgia golfers Justin Bolli, Kevin Kisner and Brendon Todd will compete alongside local products Blake Adams and Keith Guest.
“The course conditions are outstanding and present a difficult but fair test for all competitors,” says Dan Elliott, General Manager of Jennings Mill. “It’s an honor for Jennings Mill to be selected again by the Nationwide Tour as tournament host and it’s exciting to showcase our wonderful club.”
Opened in 1986, Jennings Mill offers its members a bevy of amenities – championship golf course, full golf-practice facility, fitness center, tennis courts, pool, restaurant and banquet rooms – making it a natural fit for recreation and social gatherings. Designed by renowned architect Bob Cupp, the challenging par-72, 7,200-yard, links-style layout has hosted the Georgia State Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship in addition to PGA and Nationwide Tour events. Built on hilly terrain with narrow fairways, Jennings Mill has numerous creeks, ponds, lakes and streams which come into play on most holes.
Jennings Mill recently introduced two new memberships to the local community. The Annual Golf family membership – $295/month with no initiation fee – includes greens fees, clubhouse privileges and use of the state-of-the-art fitness center, tennis facilities and pool complex. The Annual Sports membership – starting at $49/month – grants access to the clubhouse, fitness center, tennis facilities, pool complex and four rounds of golf per year.
