Playoff victory sends 2007 PGA Grand Slam of Golf Champion back to Bermuda and coveted spot in the most elite foursome in golf
Argentina’s Angel Cabrera, who is no stranger to high-pressure golf, earned the first spot of the year in the most difficult tournament in the world to qualify for, the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which moves to Bermuda’s Port Royal Golf Club, Oct. 20-21.
Cabrera, who defeated Padraig Harrington in a playoff to win the 2007 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, battled his way back to Bermuda with a thrilling sudden-death playoff victory yesterday at the Masters. Cabrera defeated Kenny Perry on the second hole of the playoff after Chad Campbell had been eliminated on the first hole of sudden death at Augusta (Ga.) National Golf Club.
Cabrera sank crucial par putts on the 18th hole in regulation and the first playoff hole, then parred the second playoff hole for his second major title — his first coming at the 2007 U.S. Open Championship, The PGA Grand Slam of Golf will once again air on TNT, where it is broadcast in prime time to more than 89 million U.S. homes and an international audience of more than 100 countries. Comprised of four major championship winners, the 36-hole PGA Grand Slam of Golf provides the best players in the world the opportunity to earn a spot in the most elusive and difficult foursome in all of golf.
Invited to join Cabrera in that foursome will be the winners of the U.S. Open, June 18-21, at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.; the British Open, July 16-19, at Turnberry, Ayrshire, Scotland; and the 91st PGA Championship, Aug. 13-16, at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Should a player win more than one major Championship this season, the foursome will be completed through the Major Champions Points List composed of past major Champions who compete in the current year’s majors.
Other past PGA Grand Slam of Golf Champions include defending champion Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Tom Lehman, Ben Crenshaw, Greg Norman, Nick Price and Ian Woosnam.
Tickets and corporate hospitality for the 27th PGA Grand Slam of Golf may be purchased by calling either 800-PGA-GOLF (800-742-4653) or (561) 624-7601, as well as by visiting www.PGA.com or www.pgagrandslamofgolf.com.
