PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., April 16, 2009 – LPGA Tour player Beth Bader has been named the Honorary Chair of the 2009 ‘Women Who Lead’ Awards program of the EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association). She will play a round of golf with three of the award winners at the April 2010 EWGA Conference in Pinehurst, N.C.
Introduced in 2008, the annual EWGA ‘Women Who Lead’ Awards are designed to recognize outstanding performance and outstanding results among EWGA chapter volunteer leaders in 10 distinct categories. The categories include overall leadership, spirit, change agent, membership recruitment, golf education, golf events, golf leagues, sponsorship, making connections and community impact.
From nominations from members, finalists in each category are selected and then the 10 award winners are chosen. The award recipients will be honored at the EWGA conference, receive a commemorative gift and entered in a drawing to win one of the three playing spots with Beth on Pinehurst No. 2.
“I am honored to serve as the spokeswoman for the EWGA 2009 ‘Women Who Lead’ Award program. As an LPGA Tour player, I know I would not be where I am had it not been for those who led the LPGA into existence,” says Bader who joined the LPGA Tour in 2001. “I look forward to playing a round of golf with the women of the EWGA who are leading in a variety of ways that make a difference for women of today and those to follow.”
Bader began her golf career in Iowa where she won the 1991 Iowa Junior Open, 1991 Des Moines Open and 1992 Waterloo Junior Open. She was captain of the Iowa State University (ISU) women’s golf team, where she earned her degree in sports management in 1997. She played on the Futures Tour before joining the LPGA in 2001. Since losing her mother to pancreatic cancer in 2004, Bader has led a crusade against the disease by launching the Susan L. Bader Foundation of Hope, and raising more than $50,000 in a memorial tournament. In 2007, Bader recorded a career-best tie for fourth at the LPGA Corning Classic where she carded a season low 65 in the opening round and matched an LPGA season-low for 36 holes with a 13 under-par 131. Her best 2008 finish was a tie for 25th at the LPGA State Farm Classic and she placed T57 in the March 2009 MasterCard Classic.
Founded in 1991, the EWGA is dedicated to connecting women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and fun. There are currently over 125 chapters throughout the United States with international chapters in Canada and France, each run by volunteer leaders. The chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers. The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
