BETHANY, Conn. (April 17, 2009)-Dr. Robert Grober, founder and acting CEO of Sonic Golf Inc., will be one of three speakers at the 2009 Northeast PGA Instructors Conference, which will be held on Monday, April 20, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
Dr. Grober-a Professor of Applied Physics and Physics at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., since 1994-possesses a scientific expertise in materials physics, high spatial resolution optical imaging and spectroscopy, general scientific instrumentation and the physics of golf. His company-Bethany, Conn.-based Sonic Golf Inc.-specializes in electronically enabled, intelligent golf clubs that utilize modern technologies to help people help themselves become better golfers.
Thanks to the revolution in low-power microelectronics, Professor Grober’s development of electronically enabled golf clubs is radically changing the relationship between the golfer and the golf club. These intelligent sensor systems provide quantitative golf-swing measurements with unprecedented detail. Additionally, they have been implemented to enable real-time, audio biofeedback on the club’s motion.
Dr. Grober’s afternoon-session presentation at the conference, “Biomechanical Resonance in the Golf Swing,” will stress the role of biomechanical resonance in the golf swing of professional golfers and is based on results presented in two papers, both of which are posted online. “Towards a Biomechanical Model of Tempo in the Golf Swing” can be viewed by going to arxiv.org/abs/physics/0611291 while “Resonance in Putting” can be found at arxiv.org/abs/0903.1762.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, Dr Grober earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Maryland and was a postdoctoral member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Labs in Murray Hill, N.J. He has published more than 50 scientific papers on a diverse variety of subjects and has won numerous honors and awards, including the 1997 Packard Foundation Fellowship for Science and Engineering.
