Four of the Five Top Finishers Played Mizuno Irons
Norcross, GA (April 20, 2009) – In the season’s most dominating performance to date, Brian Gay captured the Verizon Heritage title for his 2nd career victory. Gay fired a final round 64 to win the tournament by 10 shots over fellow Mizuno Staff Player Luke Donald (MP-62s). Using his Mizuno MX long irons (3-4) and MP mid/short irons (5-PW), Mizuno hybrid and Mizuno Bettinardi C-Series putter, Gay set a new tournament scoring record of 20 under par. With his victory, Gay climbed up to 7th in FedEx Cup points and 8th on the Official Money List.
One of the straightest hitters on Tour, Gay led fellow Mizuno professional Luke Donald (tied 2nd) who continued to return to form following his long injury lay off. Luke now has four top ten finishes in the nine tournaments he has played since his return from wrist surgery.
The Harbour Town course with its tight greens and narrow fairways seemed to play into the hands of Mizuno’s iron users. In addition to Brian Gay and Luke Donald, two other players playing Mizuno irons also finished in the Top 5
“Brian has played very well over the last two years, and we are excited that he now has his second win on Tour. He is really coming into his own out there, and his game seems to be improving each week.” said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Golf Division for Mizuno USA, Inc. “The course really seems to suit Mizuno irons as well. You need really crisp ball striking and great distance control, and to have four players in the top five playing Mizuno irons reinforces that our patented Grain Flow Forging process offers just that.”
